‘The mail isn’t safe’: Whistleblower pulls back curtain on reported postal service issues

‘The mail isn’t safe’: Whistleblower pulls back curtain on reported postal service issues

From the article: "...The whistleblower felt compelled to come forward after they said the USPS lied to WBRC about backed up mail, confirming it was all clear in a matter of days.

“It was never cleaned up, it’s my understanding during that investigation the mail was moved from one location to another,” they stated. “There were safety complaints filed on the backed-up mail and workplace hazards. They cleared the aisles before the fire marshals came in so they could pass inspection.”

A complaint we heard from dozens of viewers: packages delayed by weeks. The tracker would show the package sitting for days or even weeks in the Birmingham distribution center. At times, instead of being delivered locally, it would travel to multiple states and then back to Birmingham.

...Our whistleblower explained when packages back up in the distribution plant, workers will put boxes on any truck regardless of the zip code in an effort to clear the floor, further delaying your delivery. They say the mail processing plants are in similar disarray. "

Will the Postal Service do a better job vetting employees than they have the last 3 years?

APWU | Better Staffing, Better Service

From the article: "...While there was considerable progress with a series of Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) regarding Function 1 mail processing staffing, we have not convinced management to increase the complement in retail. Too often this results in temporarily closed post offices due to a lack of proper staffing. Along with all other avenues, we must win the staffing battles in the streets with the support of the public. If you are ready to get more involved in this fight, go to apwu.org/better-postal-staffing. You can also reach out to campaign lead Sam Wood or email staffing@apwu.org. ..."
